Welcome to the
Dover Coalition for Youth Web Site
The Dover Coalition for Youth
is a non-profit community organization coordinated by the Dover Police
Department through its Community Outreach Bureau. The Coalition is tasked with
improving the quality of life in
Dover for youth and families by preventing the harm caused by substance abuse.
The Coalition is the means by
which we hope to bring all of the elements of the community together to take on
alcohol and other drug abuse, and its related problems such as depression or
sexual assault. No one agency, business, or program can solve the complex
issues associated with substance abuse. The Coalition attempts to bring all of
the potential community resources and partners to the table, including parents,
schools, police, the recreation community, businesses, religious leaders, health
and social services, the media, and youth.
The Coalition also attempts to
promote a cooperative approach to prevention that results in a consistent
strategy and message about alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. This will insure,
for example, that kids are not getting conflicting messages about alcohol from
their coaches, DARE Officers, teachers, and parents.
The Coalition has attempted
to accomplish this by undertaking initiatives with its partners in the
community. Activities and programs undertaken by the Coalition include
creating radio ads, presentations in Dover schools on underage drinking,
tobacco compliance checks in local stores, reviewing policies on substance
violations in Dover schools, sponsoring programs that raise awareness of drug
issues, and many more efforts that can be viewed in the drop down menu above
under PROGRAMS.
